The preparation process and properties of anticorrosion coating of magnesium alloy by arc spraying

Abstract
Magnesium and magnesium alloy has a series of advantages, such as high specific strength and stiffness, outstanding electromagnetic shielding performance, strong anti vibration and radiation ability, easy cutting processing and recycling. It is the third class of metallic structural materials following steel and aluminum alloy. It is called as the twenty-first Century green engineering material. However, the standard electrode potential of pure magnesium is low,(-2.37 V), so the corrosion of magnesium alloy is the main problems which restrict its wide field of engineering application.
In this paper, pure aluminum coating and nickel-aluminium alloy coating was maded on AZ31B magnesium alloy through arc spraying technique. First, I determined the arc spraying parameters and then got a series of coating through different combinations of arc spraying parameters. Then Study on the coating through a series of analysis and research ,such as appearance quality and organizational structure research, contact layer structure, mechanical properties and anticorrosion research. So determined the optimum combination of parameters of the arc spraying of pure aluminum coating and nickel-aluminium alloy coating. For the pure aluminum coating,the spraying voltage should be at 27.9V , the spraying distance should be at 150mm, the spraying angle should be at 90°and the atomizing air pressure should between 0.6MPa and 0.8MPa; For the nickel-aluminium alloy coating, the spraying voltage should be at 35.8V , the spraying distance should be at 150mm, the spraying angle should be at 90°and the atomizing air pressure should between 0.6MPa and 0.8MPa. Finally studied the different heat treatment processes on the arc spraying coating quality. The various performances of the two coatings were analyzed, found that the various performances of arc spraying nickel-aluminium alloy coating are superior to the arc spraying pure aluminum coating.
