Abstract
A number fo zirconium oxide powders is being used for plasma-sprayed thermal barrier coatings.Typical are ZrO2-MgO 80/20 and ZrO2-Y2O3,powders have production-specific properties which have to be considered for their application.The interdependencies of powder quality-spraying process and coating quality are outlined generally and the powder properties of a number of differently produced zirxonia spray powder types are being discussed.In order to recognize the processing-relevant powder properties and to utilize them purpose fully a suitable powder characterization is necessary which is described in its essential aspects.
