Abstract
Corrosion of waterwall tubes in boilers is a continuing problem in paper(Plumley and Roczniak,1974),power(Menzo and Rohoi,1979) and chemical process industries.Tube replacement is both time-consuming and costly.Replacement costs can range from $500 to $2,000 per square foot for tubes which have degraded due to corrosion,abrasion or erosion.In addition,costs can run as high as $200,000/day while a 1200 ton recovery boiler in support of a pulp mill is off-line.These extremely high costs have led to the use of thermal spray coatings to combat these boiler problems.
Recent results from an on-going program conducted to develop such a coating have been very encouraging.A special new alloy and coating system are now available which may,at last,offer a cost effective,reliable solution for boiler tube protection.
