Abstract The study of thermal barrier coatings is the sticking point of exploiting thermal barrier coating system, which is used in the next generation of high performance aero turbine engine. Those may be used as thermal barrier coatings ceramic materials are Al2O3, Y2O3partially stabilized ZrO2, rare earth zirconate and oxide with perovskite structure (Y3AlxFe5-xO12, LaPO4and LaMgAl11O19). In the present paper, the thermal and mechanical properties of these ceramic materials mentioned bove are reviewed, and their research status and development tendency are investigated.
