Abstract: Hydrodynamic gas foil bearing are wildly applied in high speed turbine machinery，such as turbo-expander，micro-gas turbine and turbo-charger． The lubrication and protection for the start and stop stages of a high speed turbine rotor can be sup-plied by solid lubricant coatings，which could also be a vital factor for the stable and long time running of the turbine machinery．The history and up-to-date development of the gas foil bearing solid coatings were reviewed，and the properties，applications，advantages and disadvantages of the PS solid coating，the Korolon solid coating and the DLC solid coating were discussed in detail．
