A survey of the detonation gun sprayed wear resistant coatings

Abstract
When two surfaces are in contact wear occurs on both surfaces. Individuals and industry tend to focus on the wearing surface that has the greatest impact on their own economic situation and consider the other surface to abrasive. Now a days’ surface coating is applied to a great extent to improve the surface characteristics over those of the bulk properties increase the wear and corrosion resistance of steels. Thermal spray represents an important and cost effective technique for tailoring the surface properties of engineering components with a view to enhancing their durability and performance. Detonation gun coatings are often considered to the premier coatings which are having very dense microstructure (0.1- 1% porosity). Almost any material can be sprayed and this process is most widely used for spraying the coatings like ceramics, cermets, composites, metals & alloys for enhancing the wide range of surface properties like wear resistance, corrosion resistance, heat resistance, friction, antifriction and electrical insulation.
