Abstract: Friction,wear and corrosion are responsible for most failures of the metal work pieces in machinery and power equipments. The consequent increase in energy and material consumption,hence enormous economic loss,gives rise to the need of an effective way to reduce the wear. WC coating is such aprotective coating that meets the need. This paper reviews the progress in the study of the friction and wear behavior of carbide coatings at home and abroad through a systematic analysis of its friction and wear behavior,structure,as well as working mechanism. It offers a microscopic view to the wear resistance mechanism of the coating,the preparation technology,and the relation between the wear resistance effect and the content of WC andother factors,which we hope may shed light on the future research of WC coating.
