ABSTRACT Owing to the lower heat resistance and erosion resistance performance，the application of polymer matrix composites are confined in aircraft engine． In the view of the characteristics of polymer matrix composites，the research status of protective coating were introduced at home and abroad． The mechanisms，characteristics and application of different coating were discussed as well as the research orientation． By decreasing the substrate temperature during spraying，improving the bonding strength of coating and substrate，innovating the spraying process，improving spray materials，then the problems encountering are solved in thermal spraying process．
