Abstract:In this paper sub-micron WC-12%Co coating was deposited by detonation gun spraying. The phase constituent and the microstructure of the coating were studied. The coatings deposited by detonation gun spraying and by air plasma spraying were compared. The experimental results are as follows. The sub-micron WC-12%Co coating has no obvious layer. WC particles are not melted while Co binder is melted. Compared to the decarburization of conventional coating made from micron-size WC particles, the decarburization of the coating made from submicron-size WC particles is more serious. The constituent phases in the detonation gun sprayed-coating are WC, W2C, Co, Co3W3C and W. The major phase is WC and the minor phase is W. When the two techniques of detonation gun spraying and plasma spraying are compared, detonation gun spraying is favor for reducing decarburization.
