Abstract
The development of shrinkage porosity during thermal spraying is analysed. Equations are presented which describe the kinetics of this porosity formation under the solidification of coating layers of different shapes on account of the shrinkage action. Shrinkage porosity microzones are shown to be formed near crystals of different shapes, and it has been established that these microzones develop in the surface parts of the coating layers. The evolution of porosity parameters is studied. The results obtained agree well with the tendencies of shrinkage porosity behaviour observed experimentally during thermal spraying.
