Abstract The history,characters and applications of arc spraying are introduced in this paper,and emphasis is laid on the present situation and development trend of material and equipments.It is pointed that as the new development trend of the material for arc spraying ,the powder cored wires can be tried to obtain the amorphous coating,metal ceramic coating and nanometer coating.The power source and spraying gun are the key components of the arc spraying.Inversion technolo-gy will be in the lead in the development of power source,and higher velocity,higher efficiency and feeding wires will char-acterize the gun.
