Abstract：The laser cladding metal based titanium carbide research present status and application development were introduced. The research progress from three respects separately: direct cladding titanium carbide, synthesis titanium carbide reinforcing phase, rare earth's modification on titanium carbide reinforced phase was introduced. From the physical and chemical properties of titanium carbide, the effects of cladding methods, cladding powders and substrates on the microstructure and properties of the cladding layer were introduced.
