Abstract: Inorder to reduce the skin frictiondrag of under water vehicles like rowing shell,a novel method for the fabrication of binary structured surface was proposed with a simple spray-painting technique,and remarkable drag reduction performance was obtained. By performing experiments and conducting computational fluiddynamic methods,the formation mechanismof binary structure surface was investigated. According to the results,interfacial convection and deformation which are driven by the gradients of temperature and surface tension due to solvents evaporation plays a crucial rolein the formationprocessof surfacetopographyof polymer coating.
