The SEM micrographs of the raw materials Ti and SiC were presented in Fig. 1. It can be seen that the Ti powders were irregular particle with particle size ranging from 5 to 20 μm, and the SiC powders were particle with size ranging from 1 to 3 μm.

Fig. 1. SEM micrographs of raw material powders: (a) Ti and (b) SiC.
Fig. 2 shows the XRD patterns of raw powders Ti and SiC. Fig. 2a shows that the main phase of raw material powders Ti was Ti, in addition to a small amount of TiH1.5。Since Ti powders were obtained by dehydrogenating titanium hydride, a small amount of TiH1.5appears in the Ti raw material powders. Fig. 2b shows the XRD pattern of SiC powders, the phase was pure SiC.

Fig. 2. XRD patterns of raw material powders: (a) Ti and (b) SiC.
Fig. 3 presents the XRD pattern of spray-dried Ti-SiC composite powders. It can be seen from Fig. 3 that spray-dried Ti-SiC composite powders were composed of Ti, SiC and TiH1.5. There was no phase change during spray drying compared with raw material powders Ti and SiC.
