Ni-Al2O3-MoS2 composite coatings are prepared by an integrative technique of electrophoresis and electrodeposition on aluminum alloy substrate. Al2O3 and MoS2 particles are uniformly dispersed in Ni matrix. The coatings have a good bonding with the substrate, without defects such as pores and cracks. The microindentation hardness of the composite coatings is gradually decreased with the increasing MoS2 concentration in the EPD bath.When the MoS2 concentration is 1.0 g/L, the composite coatings have optimum tribological properties, exhibiting minima of friction coefficient and wear loss.
