Abstract: Detonation spraying and high velocity oxy-fuel (HVOF) thermal spraying are used for alumina and tungsten carbide coating. Then the basic properties of the coating are analyzed, as well as their corrosion, friction and wear characteristics. The results showed that, high velocity oxy-fuel thermal spraying tungsten carbide coatings have low porosity, high hardness, high adhesion strength, low surface energy characteristics and excellent corrosion resistance, and wear resistance, due to the creation of a meta-stable phase C-Al2O3during the spray ,the detonation spraying aluminum coating is eroded in the acidic environment. So its property is worse than the tungsten carbide coating.
