Mixed solution precursor plasma spraying

APS is the conventional method to prepare abradable sealing coatings. In this process, the powder particles that form the coating are injected into a plasma jet, molten, accelerated, and then impacted on a substrate. Spray working parameters could be adjusted to produce different coating structures and abradable behavior, but the use of APS to produce these coatings can not fundamentally improve porosity oraltered the coating hardness. In addition, APS technology cannot pro-duce porous coatings with nano-structure due to incompatible processengineering. To further improve these materials, we introduced a novel technology of mixed solution precursor plasma spraying to prepare abradable sealing coating with nano-structure through improved solution precursor plasma spraying(SPPS) technology. SPPS technology has been used to prepare thermal barrier coating (TBC), but this paper is the first report of the use of this technology for the preparation of abradable sealing coating. SPPS technology is modified by the addition of nano-particles into the solution precursor. The coating formation process is shown in Fig.1. The purpose of this work was to develop a preparation method for more efficient abradable sealing coatings with improved hardness and porosity. The morphology, porosity, structure, and crys-talline phase of the prepared coatings were characterized. The prop-erties of coatings prepared with different nano-particles ratios were systematically investigated, including mechanical strength, hardness, abradability, thermal shock resistance, and thermal stability.
