Fig.1(a and b) shows the morphologies of the Al/Fe2O3 composite powder. It is found that the powder presents an irregular shape in an agglomerated state(Fig.1(a)). When observed at higher magnification(Fig.1(b)), it can be clearly seen that the Al particulates are clad by fine Fe2O3 particles in good condition, which should be beneficial to the thermite reaction between Fe2O3 and Al particles to form a uniform coating structure. The measurement of the particle size distribution indicates that the particle size is in the range of about 20-65 um, as shown in Fig.1(c). From XRD result of the composite powder(Fig.1(d)), it exhibits the Fe2O3 and Al phases, and no other phases are detected, which indicates that the composite powder keeps high stability during the manufacturing process.
