TiSiN-Ag nanocomposite coatings on Ti–6Al–4V

 With the rapid development of aeronautic and marine industries, an increasing number of Ti–6Al–4V are applied in many demanding applications such as: high-performance aircraft compressor casting of turbine engines, aerospace fasteners, air-craft structural components, high-performance automotive parts ,marine applications and oil industry. Furthermore, the excel-lent bio-compatibility has extended the medical application of Ti–6Al–4V alloy such as or thorpaedics, odontology and stentc atheterization. However, the poor wear resistance limits the use of Ti–6Al–4V alloy in some applications. Nowadays, physi-cal vapor deposition (PVD) coatings of surface modifications have been employed to improve the wear resistance of  Ti–6Al–4Valloy.Hard nanocomposite coatings offer an excellent combination of superior mechanical properties (such as high hardness and fracture toughness), high thermal stability and oxidation resistance, good corrosion resistance performance, as well as excellent tribological properties have found to be the materials of choice as wear-protection. The addition of a softmetal such as Ag or Cu to nanocomposite coating is generally inter-esting in a variety of fields, such as tribological coatings andantibacterial coatings, of which the friction coefficient wasfound to be lower and the mechanical properties of these coatings.
