Abstract: The sample preparation method for metallographic test of thermal spraying metal carbide powder was investigated by using the automatic grinding and polishing equipment and optical microscope in this work.The results show that the highest ratio of thermal spraying metal carbide powder to mounting bakelite powder decreases with its particle size increasing. The powder with low flow ability is easy to evenly distribute in the mounting area. The ideal metallographic samples can be obtained by using the gradual decreasing pressure during the polishing process.
