The APS-TBC coupons used in this study were supplied by Curtiss-Wright, USA, with an APS 8 wt.% YSZ top coat,a CoNiCrAlY (Praxair CO-211, Co-32Ni-21Cr-8Al-0.5Y) bond coat on IN718 substrate. The bond coat thickness was about 200 um and the top coat thickness about 300 um.
The porosity of the top coat was approximately 15-20%. The SEM microstructure of the APS-TBC system in the as-deposited condition is shown in Fig.1. The cross-sectional microscopic image displays three distinct layers: substrate, bond coat and top coat.
